How to Export Your Untappd Check-Ins
You can export your Untappd check-ins, and there are two things to know before you start: the export is behind a paid tier, and the buttons do not appear on a phone. Both catch people out and neither is documented anywhere prominent.
This is the whole procedure, what the file actually contains, and what you can do with it afterwards.
Export your Untappd check-ins, step by step
- Log in to Untappd on the web, on a laptop, desktop or tablet. The export controls are not rendered on small mobile viewports, so the phone app is a dead end for this.
- Hover your profile picture to open the menu.
- Open Drink History, the beer history tab.
- Choose the format, CSV or JSON. Either works for importing elsewhere.
- The file is emailed to the address on your account rather than downloading in the browser. Check spam if it does not arrive.
What is in the export
The Untappd export is generous compared to most. A check-in row carries the beer, the brewery, the style and strength, your score, your comment, the timestamp, the venue and often a photo.
| Field | What it is | Survives an import? |
|---|---|---|
| beer_name | The beer | Yes, and it is required |
| brewery_name | Who made it | Yes |
| brewery_city, brewery_country | Where they are | Yes, combined into an origin |
| beer_type | The style | Yes |
| beer_abv | Strength | Yes |
| rating_score | Your score out of 5 | Yes, at full precision |
| comment | What you wrote | Yes |
| created_at | When you drank it | Yes, the history keeps its dates |
| venue_name, venue_city | Where you were | Yes |
| photo_url | Your check-in photo | Yes, re-hosted on import |
One quirk worth knowing: check-ins logged at home carry the venue "Untappd at Home", which is a placeholder rather than a real place. We strip it rather than storing a venue that does not exist, so those check-ins simply have no venue attached.
Importing your check-ins into Crumble
Upload the file exactly as it arrived, CSV or JSON, no cleanup. The format is detected from the columns, so you do not pick anything.
Check-ins land in the beer tracker, not on your map. That distinction is deliberate: a check-in is a record of a drink, not a rated visit to a place. Each beer becomes an entry with the brewery, origin, style and ABV attached, and each check-in of it becomes a dated session underneath carrying your score, your note and your photo.
Which means your history keeps its shape. Six check-ins of the same beer across three years stay six sessions of one beer, rather than collapsing into six unrelated rows or one averaged one.
Limits: 4 MB per file, 2000 rows parsed, 500 written per commit. A long Untappd history will exceed 2000 check-ins, so expect to import in passes. Nothing is written until you commit, and the preview shows what was found first.
Your photos come with you
Check-in photos are re-hosted into our own storage rather than hotlinked, so they keep working if Untappd removes the original or you close the account. They are downscaled hard on the way in, because incidental check-in photos are not worth full-resolution storage.
Under the hood that fetch is locked to Untappd's CDN host specifically, which matters more than it sounds: pulling a URL supplied by an uploaded file is the classic way an importer becomes a hole in a server. It is the only place in the import system that fetches a user-supplied URL at all.
What happens to your ratings
Untappd scores in quarter steps up to 5, and Crumble rates on the same 0 to 5 scale. Imported scores keep their precision (up to two decimals, so a 3.75 stays a 3.75) and nothing is rounded to half stars.
Should you move off Untappd at all
Straight answer: for beer alone, Untappd is very good, and the community and the database are things no smaller app replicates. If beer is all you track and the public feed is part of the appeal, exporting for backup and staying put is a perfectly sensible outcome.
The case for moving is if beer is one of several things you drink and eat, and you are tired of a separate app per category. Our Untappd alternatives comparison covers that properly, and how to track beer covers the method either way.
Coming off other apps as well, the same walkthrough exists for exporting your Vivino wine list and exporting Google Maps saved places.
Frequently asked questions
How do I export my Untappd check-ins?
Log in to Untappd on the web using a laptop, desktop or tablet, hover your profile picture, open Drink History, and choose CSV or JSON. The file is emailed to the address on your account rather than downloading in the browser. The export controls are not shown on small mobile screens, so the phone app cannot do it.
Do you need Untappd Insiders to export your data?
Yes. The data export sits behind Untappd Insiders, the paid tier renamed from the Supporter Program in November 2021. New enrolments were listed at USD 5.99 a month or 54.99 a year when we checked in September 2026. If you are exporting in order to leave, one paid month is enough to get the file out.
What is in an Untappd export?
Per check-in: the beer name, brewery, brewery city and country, style, ABV, your rating, your comment, the timestamp, the venue name and city, and a photo URL where you added one. It is a fuller export than most drink apps provide, which makes it genuinely portable.
Can I import Untappd check-ins into another app?
Yes, if the app reads Untappd's columns. In Crumble you upload the CSV or JSON as it arrived and it is detected automatically. Check-ins land in the beer tracker rather than on the map, since a check-in is a drink record and not a rated place, and repeat check-ins of one beer stay grouped as sessions under that beer.
Do check-in photos transfer?
In Crumble they do. Photos are re-hosted into our own storage rather than linked back to Untappd, so they survive the original being removed or the account being closed. They are downscaled on the way in, and the fetch is restricted to Untappd's own CDN host.
What happens to check-ins logged as "Untappd at Home"?
That is Untappd's placeholder for drinking at home rather than a real venue, so it is stripped on import and those check-ins arrive with no venue attached. Everything else about them, the beer, your score, your note, the date and the photo, comes through normally.
